TWO AMIT GRADUATES VISIT UNITED STATES
New York City, March 30, 2004......Two AMIT graduates, Batsheva Adamka and Netta Fuchs, recently visited the United States accompanied by AMIT’s executive director in Israel, Ardie Geldman. Several communities in the U.S. were fortunate to host these young women, each of whom had a compelling story to tell. They journeyed across the country from Phoenix, to Silver Spring, Baltimore, Memphis, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and New York City, winning over AMIT’s friends and members with their lovely manners, sincerity and deep appreciation for the role AMIT has played in turning their lives around. They are representative of the miracles that AMIT is performing in Israel every day.
Netta Fuchs was born to a Yemenite mother and a Polish father. She is one of eight children. The family was torn apart by chronic unemployment, divorce, poverty and violence. Her family was living in a one-bedroom apartment when she was brought by her mother to AMIT’s Kfar Batya Youth Village. With AMIT’s help, Netta completed high school with very satisfactory grades, and is now serving her National Service as a secretary at the Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. She is planning on attending university and pursuing a career in plant science.
Batsheva Adamka was born in the Sudan, during her family’s arduous trek from Ethiopia to Israel. She underwent major surgery as a child, losing almost a year and a half of elementary school. She never quite caught up, never really fit in, until she enrolled in the high school at Kfar Blatt and, as she told us, "the hidden, the other" Batsheva emerged. Today she is in her second year of National Service, back at Kfar Blatt where she works with young people in our youth village. She was so affected by her AMIT education that she is planning a career working with children-at-risk.
