ISRAEL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION HONORS FOUR TEACHERS AT AMIT HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS IN HAIFA

July 7, 2003......Four teachers at the AMIT Anna Teich High School for Girls in Haifa have been awarded prizes by Israel's Ministry of Education for excellence in teaching. The four were cited for their achievements in preparing students for their matriculation exams; the success rate at AMIT Anna Teich now approaches 99.4 percent.

The four awardees are Ms. Judy Granot, an English teacher; Ms. Nurit Goldberg, the coordinator of the English Department; Dr. Rachel Moglofsky, a math teacher, and Dr. Leah Oxman, coordinator of the Mathematics Department. Both Dr. Moglofsky and Dr. Oxman immigrated from the FSU approximately 10 years ago and have been teaching at the school for nine years.

The AMIT Anna Teich High School for Girls enrolls students from across the economic spectrum. About 20 per cent are Ethiopian immigrants. In addition to the required courses in Judaic studies, English and mathematics, students concentrate in physics, biology, literature, theater or communications.

In past academic years, AMIT Anna Teich students have placed first in the National Physics Competition and second in the National Mathematics Competition, both of which are sponsored by the Technion, and second place on the regional level in the National Competition in Mastery of Mishna. The students also have been honored for their volunteer work on behalf of the Association for the War Against Cancer, the School for Special Children and Rambam Hospital.
