AMIT SCHEDULES 80TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER
New York City, April 12, 2005...... AMIT will launch the celebration of its 80th anniversary year with a gala dinner on Thursday evening, May 19, 2005, at the Museum of Jewish History-A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York City. All proceeds from the dinner will be dedicated to the AMIT Campaign for Sderot, a city in Israel that has been the frequent target of terrorist Qassam rocket attacks from the nearby Gaza Strip. AMIT maintains a network of six schools in Sderot, serving hundreds of children.
Moshe Yehayas, a graduate of the AMIT High School in Karmiel, and Yonatan Dror, a graduate of the AMIT High School in Acco, will be the special guests. Moshe, who was born in Israel shortly after his parents arrived from Ethiopia during "Operation Moses" (and was named accordingly), is the eighth of ten children. He is currently a student at Tel Aviv University in the mechanical engineering program. Yonatan, the youngest of five children, lives on Moshav Ben-Ami in the western Galilee. An outstanding science student, he also sings and plays several instruments, including piano and guitar. Yonatan is doing his National Service this year, working with Ethiopian children in an absorption center, and plans to begin his university studies in the fall.
Zelda Berger and Miriam Glaubach, both residents of Great Neck, New York, are chairing the event.
The 80th Anniversary Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. with docent-led tours of the Museum's current exhibits. The tours will be followed by a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Couvert is $500 per person, with other donor opportunities available.
Please call 212-477-4720, ext. 137, for reservations and further information.
AMIT enables Israel's youth to realize their potential and strengthens Israeli society by educating and nurturing children from diverse backgrounds within a framework of academic excellence, religious values and Zionist ideals.
AMIT educates and cares for Israel's youth, including the most vulnerable. More than three quarters of AMIT students cope with educational, psychological, economic and/or social risk factors. The AMIT schools promote religious tolerance, service to the state and the recognition that every child is blessed with unique talents and abilities. Founded in 1925, AMIT operates more than 60 schools, youth villages, surrogate family residences and other programs, constituting Israel's only government-recognized network of religious Jewish education incorporating academic and technological studies.
