AMIT OPENS KFAR BATYA AND KFAR BLATT TO SHELTER FAMILIES FROM NORTHERN ISRAEL
New York City, July 19, 2006...... As the rocket attacks in Northern Israel continue, AMIT has opened the campus of Kfar Batya in Ra’anana to 150 people who have fled their homes in Nahariya and Kiryat Shemona. The campus of AMIT Kfar Blatt in Petach Tikvah is also scheduled to begin accepting families later this week.

Most of the people who have arrived at AMIT Kfar Batya are families with children. AMIT is running a summer camp for the children, who have full use of Kfar Batya’s facilities, such as the swimming pool, tennis courts, and gymnasium. Families are housed in the dormitories, provided with three meals a day and can enjoy the lovely grounds of the Kfar.
Rockets and missiles have fallen in Karmiel, Hatzor, Tzfat, Rosh Pina, Haifa and Acco, all cities where AMIT has schools and programs. Thankfully, the school year has ended and no students are in class. In Tzfat a missile landed close to one of the AMIT school buildings, causing minor damage.

Qassam rockets are continuing to fall in Sderot, a development town bordering the Gaza Strip, where AMIT has seven schools serving thousands of students from kindergarten through post high school. AMIT has an ongoing campaign to help the children of Sderot, which has been under attack from Qassam rockets for several years.

AMIT educates and cares for Israel’s youth, including the most vulnerable. More than three quarters of AMIT students cope with educational, psychological, economic and/or social risk factors. AMIT approaches each child as an individual, maximizing his or her potential, and enabling our students to become vital, productive members of Israeli society. The AMIT schools promote religious tolerance, service to the state and the recognition that every child is blessed with unique talents and abilities. Founded in 1925, AMIT operates more than 60 schools, youth villages, surrogate family residences and other programs, constituting Israel’s only government-recognized network of religious Jewish education incorporating academic and technological studies.
