LOCAL RESIDENTS TO BE HONORED AT AMIT ANNUAL DINNER

New York City, October 23, 2007...... Zelda and Solomon Berger, residents of Great Neck, New York, Robyn Price Stonehill and David Stonehill, residents of New York City and Deanne and Dr. Leonard Shapiro, residents of Monsey, New York will be honored at the 2007 AMIT Annual Dinner, scheduled for Sunday, November 11th, at the Grand Hyatt New York.

Hundreds of friends and supporters of AMIT are expected to attend the event. All proceeds will benefit AMIT’s network of more than 70 schools, youth villages, child care facilities and other programs serving over 20,000 children and young people in Israel. Chaiki Feldman, a resident of Englewood, New Jersey, is chairing the event; Rona and Ira Kellman of New York City are the 2007 Tribute Journal chairs. Dinner co-chairs include Rachel and Martin Balsam of New York City; Elana and Aryeh Bourkoff, New York City; Miriam and Felix Glaubach, Great Neck; and Suzanne and Stuart Weilgus of Monsey.

Zelda Berger has been a member of AMIT for 48 years and is currently a member of its Board of Governors. She is a member of the AMIT President’s Circle, the organization’s foremost donor group, was a member of its National Board for eight years and, for 34 years, served as coordinator and moderator of the Literary Luncheon of the AMIT Margolit Chapter.

Mrs. Berger also sits on the Board of the Women’s Division of Shaare Zedek Medical Center and was a volunteer docent at The Jewish Museum. A former teacher at Bais Yaacov of Queens and in the New York City Public Schools, Mrs. Berger earned a BA in history and an MA in Near Eastern Languages from the NYU Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Solomon Berger attended NYU as an undergraduate and received his law degree at Brooklyn Law School. He is presently engaged in real estate at Berger Realty. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Yeshiva University, where the Bergers are also Master Builders, and they have been honored at the Yeshiva University Queens County Heritage Dinner. Additionally, Mr. Berger served as president of Congregation Tifereth Moshe, a position he held for 15 years.

The Bergers have been married since 1959. They have two children and eight grandchildren.

Robyn Price Stonehill is a founding member of the New Generation Board of Directors of AMIT and currently serves as its chair. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of AMIT. As a member of the New Generation Board, she helped spearhead exciting events that introduced many new, young couples to AMIT. She is a member of AMIT’s Gayl Shechter Chapter in Manhattan and has traveled to Israel with a New Generation Mission.

Robyn is a graduate of Ramaz High School in Manhattan and graduated summa cum laude from Queens College. She is vice president of Assurant, Inc., where she is responsible for executive compensation and retirement plans.

David Stonehill is a member of the Business Advisory Council of AMIT. He is also a graduate of Ramaz High School, where he and Robyn first met, and received his A.B. from Harvard College and a joint MBA/JD degree from the Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School. He is presently a partner in Och-Ziff Capital Management, responsible for North American private equity investments.

Robyn and David are the parents of three daughters, Brooke Shayna Stonehill, Emma Sage Stonehill and Jordana Price Stonehill. They are both active at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun and at Ramaz.

Robyn is on the board of the Sisterhood, a member of the Early Childhood Center Liaison Committee, and is the former raffle chair for the Ramaz Parents Council Spring Event. She also is the past president of Kesher, the young members’ organization at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun. David is a member of the Board of Trustees and a former president of the Ramaz Alumni Association. He is on the Board of Trustees of Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun and co-chairs its Israel Bond Campaign.

Deanne Shapiro is a member of the Board of Directors of AMIT and most recently served as first senior vice present. She has held every position in the organization through her more than 30 years of active participation on the national level.

Mrs. Shapiro is a graduate of Stern College for Women and received an RN degree from Rockland Community College.

Dr. Leonard Shapiro is an ophthalmologist in private practice in Pomona, New York. He is a graduate of Yeshiva College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has been honored by the Jewish Educational Resource Center of Rockland County, of which he was a founding member, and by UJA-Federation for leading the Soviet Jewish resettlement program in Rockland County. Both Dr. and Mrs. Shapiro were honored by The Community Synagogue of Monsey in 2006.

Dr. and Mrs. Shapiro are the proud parents of Yaffi and Yoseph Shmidman, Gavriel and Dvorah Shapiro, Ayala and Yoseph Helft, and Roni and Robyn Shapiro, as well as grandparents.
