AMIT "PROJECT SID KATZ" BENEFITS ISRAELI SOLDIERS
New York City, December 1, 2003......AMIT has launched Project Sid Katz (Spirituality for Israel's Defense) to help make available basic religious articles for soldiers serving in the Israel Defense Forces. This new AMIT project provides protective wooden cabinets - designed and built by students at the AMIT Religious Technological High School in Beersheva - which are then filled with religious articles supplied by the Israeli army. These cabinets travel with IDF units, even under combat conditions.
"Soldiers are strengthened by faith," commented Jan Schechter, president of AMIT, "no matter what their backgrounds. AMIT Project Sid Katz makes it easier to have religious articles, such as tefillin and prayer books, available on site for their use. And these strong wooden cabinets," she noted, "protect and bring these articles directly to the 'field' for the soldiers' religious needs."
Project Sid Katz was named for Sidney Katz, a religious Zionist who was a devoted supporter of Israel. The project was dedicated in Mr. Katz' memory by Rabbi Joseph Renov and Blanche Katz Renov.
Donors are invited to participate in Project Sid Katz with a gift of $1800. A Project Sid Katz cabinet will be dedicated in the donor's honor with a handsome plaque affixed directly on the cabinet.
