AMIT STUDENT TAKES SECOND PLACE IN INTERNATIONAL BIBLE COMPETITION

New York City, May 22, 2008...... Elad Finish, a 12th grade student at the AMIT Daisy Berman Yeshiva Junior and Senior High School in Beersheva, won second place in the International Bible Competition held recently on Israel Independence Day in Jerusalem. The 18-year-old Finish competed again 65 young people from 37 countries.

Finish defeated all his competitors in every segment of the competition until ultimately losing the final segment by only two points to Tzurit Berenson, a fellow Israeli from Nahariya. The contest was founded by David Ben Gurion and is sponsored by the Israeli government, in cooperation with the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Finish won first place in the Regional Bible Competition in Southern Israel and tied for first place in the national, guaranteeing his place in the prestigious International Bible Competition. A total of 16 students from Israel, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Australia competed in the international contest’s final round, which was televised on Yom Ha'Atzmaut. Education Minister Yuli Tamir participated and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert asked the designated “prime minister’s question” and handed out the awards.

The AMIT network in Beersheva consists of 10 schools, educating more than 4,000 students. There is an AMIT kindergarten, plus elementary schools and junior and senior high schools.
